Group Training Classes

The basic five....... 75.00

This includes

1.  Pay Attention

This is important because your dog has more acute senses than you do.  He can hear things you can not hear and smell things you can not smell.  His environment is full of many distractions.  Even more so if there are other people or animals around.   When you are speaking to him and especially if you are training your dog he needs to pay attention to you so this is the first thing we teach.  We teach you how to get your dog's  attention on you and what it is you want him to do.

2.  Sit/ Sit Stay

The second thing we teach in our basic five class is the "Sit" command.  Once this is learned it is useful for a multitude of things.  Teaching your dog to sit is the best way to stop your dog from jumping on you or your guests.  He can not jump and sit at the same time.  If you teach your dog  to sit on command without exception your dog will not jump.  Teaching

your dog to sit will also help to keep him safe.  He will not run out into

the street if told to sit instead.  It is important to know your dog so well

hat you can tell by his body language what he is about to do.  If it looks

like his attention is focused on the dog across the street just tell him to

sit.  If he is well trained your dog will not run across the street hoping to

play but will follow your command instead and will sit.  Your goal in

obedience training is to have your dog so well trained that he will

always do what you want instead of what he wants.

3.  Come

Teaching your dog to come every time he is called is one of the most important things to teach him.  It is a command that will keep him safe.  If he is in the path of an oncoming car or a scary mean looking dog you need him to come to you and you need him to come NOW.  It will also save you from a lot of aggravation.  You don't want to be chasing your dog all over the neighborhood you want your dog to come to you immediately when you call him.

4.  Stand

The stand command is a lot like pay attention in that it will help get his attention on you and what you want him to do.  If he is lying on his bed and you want to put on his leash your dog will need to stand before he can sit.  When you tell him to stand it is a prelude to being told to do something else and it helps him pay attention because he knows something else is coming.  If he is in the living room and you want him to come to you call his name and say come then when he gets to you tell your dog to stand.  Even though he is already on his feet he knows he needs to be in the standing position.  This is on your left side close to you, being still and waiting for his next instruction.

5.  Down/Down Stay

Teaching your dog to lay down is a very convenient command.   You want him to be happy and be with you and any one else in the room but you want him out of the way.  You may want him there longer than you would if you wanted him to sit.   We will also teach the long down with this command.  When you tell him to go lay down you can let him know he is going to be there for a while.  We will also teach your dog  to lay down stay at this time.

10 classes......... 125.00

If you take the basic five dog training classes and decide to go on to the ten classes you will get a 75.00 credit towards this class.

This class includes the basic five plus

1.   Leave it

The leave it command is a preventive measure and can keep your dog safe.  If he is about to get into something or put something into his mouth that is unsafe you will want your dog to know the command to "Leave it"  alone.

2.  Take it

You want to teach your dog the "take it" command because you want her to know it is okay to have something she wants.  It may be a toy or some food you have dropped on the floor.

3.  Drop it

If your dog gets an item that you don't want her to have and it is already in her mouth you will need to get it away from her.  This is the reason to teach your dog to "drop it" on command.  Especially if it is something dangerous you don't want to turn it into a power struggle.  You want your dog to know when you ask her for something that she needs to give it to you.  This is so much better than chasing her around the neighborhood trying to take it away from her or playing an involuntary game of tug- of-war.

5.  Fast Down

Knowing the "fast down" can keep your dog safe in many situations.  If he is running toward danger you will need him to stop NOW.   He will stop instantly at any time if he knows the "fast down" command.  With this command he will lay down immediately.  This command is often also called "stop and drop."

6.  Heel

The "heel" position is the best position in which to walk your dog on leash or off leash.  You can read more about the importance of the heel position for walking your dog at my Pet Sitting/Dog Walking website.

Check out my article there on  "How To Walk Your Dog".  The heel position lets him know you are pack leader.  Don't let him walk in front of you pulling you here and there.

This will indicate to him that he is pack leader because the pack leader

always goes first.  The goal of this class is to teach your dog to walk in the

heel position off leash.

7.  Turn Left/Turn Right in the heel position

This class teaches directional changes for the heel position.

8.  Watch from side

You want your dog to pay attention when told to from where ever he is.  It is easier for him to pay attention to you from in front of you but what if you want his attention while you are walking him.  He will need to know to look at you from the side too.

9.  The Ignore command

We have been trying to keep distractions to a minimum up to this point but now we will teach your dog with distractions.  Your dog must learn how to "ignore"  distractions.   Your dog needs to pay attention and obey your command  no matter what else is going on in the area .

Your dog needs to learn to ignore other people,  other animals and any

other distractions.
